Wyoming has 11 state parks and numerous state historic sites. Some of these historic sites are: Independence Rock, South Pass City, Wyoming Territorial Park, and the Historic Governors Mansion.
There are numerous archaeological sites around Wyoming. Some of these sites are: the Vore Buffalo Jump, Medicine Lodge, Fossil Butte National Monument, and Como Bluff.
Fort Laramie National Historic Site was an important stop along the Oregon Trail.
Wyoming has many recreational opportunities. There are two National Recreation Areas (the Bighorn Canyon recreation area and Flaming Gorge recreation area). The only state recreation area is Hawk Springs near Torrington.
Wyoming is a state that is known for its National Parks and Monuments. Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Devils Tower National Monument attract millions of visitors each year.
There are nine National Forests in the State of Wyoming. Shoshone National Forest was the first National Forest in the U.S. It was set aside as the Yellowstone Timber Reserve in 1891.
